Dollar Mentor is a 501(c)(3) public-benefit nonprofit organization with a goal to encourage and facilitate—for no compensation or economic benefit—investment and financial education to individuals and families through mentoring, presentations, articles, group discussions and other educational forms.
Background
We, the founders of Dollar Mentor, are not finance professionals. We learnt about investments on our own and realized that it can easily get overwhelming and intimidating. Our own journey could’ve been much simpler and enjoyable if we had a trusted mentor to guide us through this learning process. We started this organization so that it can play the role of such a mentor to those who need it — with no conflict of interest whatsoever.
Activities
We believe mentoring is the most effective way to learn. We offer 1:1 or group mentoring to help learn about investment and related topics. Additionally, we regularly publish articles, recorded presentations, and podcasts through our website. We have a monthly group discussion that anyone can join virtually to learn and share their knowledge.
We do not provide any professional services such as investment advice, money management, tax consultancy and so on. We neither sell nor refer, recommend, or endorse any products or services. We are not affiliated with any third party or external organizations.
Price
Dollar Mentor doesn’t accept any compensation or receive any economic benefit whatsoever for providing its resources and services. As a 100% volunteer-driven organization, it doesn’t have any affiliate program or receive any commissions / referral fees from any individual or organization. In other words, all its services and resources are absolutely free of cost – no strings attached – and without any room for a conflict of interest.
Revenue
Our primary source of revenue is public donations from people who relate to our mission and support our initiatives. We also receive nonprofit-related resources and funds from a few organizations through their general public-charity giving initiatives and donation programs. Directors make personal contributions within the limits set forth by the 501(c)(3) guidelines.
Getting Help
Reach out to us if you need a hand with your investment and financial learning. Check out the terms, but in short, it boils down to three things. First: please acknowledge that we receive no compensation or economic benefits to serve you. Second: though we learn from reputable sources and have confidence in the knowledge we share, we can’t guarantee their correctness. Third: we educate, but it’s you who has to learn, decide, and act (or not). You are expected to do your own research, be solely responsible for the results of your actions, and hold us harmless for the outcomes of your actions.
Helping Us
If you like our mission and want to help – Thank You. Acknowledging the need for a trusted mentor for investment education reflects your awareness of the knowledge gap and willingness to do something about it. Here are a few things you might consider:
*** If you can help someone within your friends, family, or acquaintances, that’d be a great service by itself. Let us know if you’d like to do it through our organization. If you aren’t confident in mentoring yourself, or lack time, feel free to send them our way.
*** Even if you aren’t ready to offer help with mentoring, you can still volunteer for the organization in some other capacity. We could use help with developing educational content, presentations, podcasts, administrative chores, etc.
*** You can give us a small donation that’d help cover the running cost of the organization. Please note that we do not accept donations in exchange for our services or resources that you may’ve used or benefited from – all our resources are free of cost to everyone, with no strings attached. Donations are taken as an unconditional contribution to furthering our mission.
